A special novelty for the Paraguayan Chaco, varieties of SOJAPAR soybean were presented at the Pioneers Expo, held at the Loma Plata fairgrounds, Boquerón department. The next launch is a new SOJAPAR variety adapted for the Chaco, and the Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (INBIO) is working on products developed in the same region, developed using HB4 technologies and through the stacking of rust genes.

At the stand, producers, customers and technicians had the opportunity to learn about the varieties, SOJAPAR R19, SOJAPAR R24, SOJAPAR R49 and SOJAPAR R75, as well as the next variety to be launched, along with the varieties that are best adaptation to specific types of soil, region and rainfall conditions. The pre-launched products were valued by the stand’s visitors for their size and load of grains. They also showed good behavior to water stress and high temperatures, combines with their low sensitivity to photoperiod, which ensure good vegetative development in plants.

In addition, clients witnessed a presented on the SICoSem platform, a tool that makes it easier for producers to declare their grain reserves for their own use as seeds of SOJAPAR varieties, in order to contribute to agricultural research. During their visit to the stand, producers and clients from around the country and the region showed considerable interest in Paraguayan technology as investment options.

Those interested in investing in agriculture, specifically in soybean planting, learned that the Paraguayan varieties as an option to ensuring productivity came from both Argentina and Brazil, as well as from Bolivia, which witnessed the development of SOJAPAR materials in a region with adverse soil conditions and weather.

An interesting fact about the event is that this year, several companies that participated, mainly to showcase agricultural inputs, began planting SOJAPAR varieties in their stands. Therefore, these varieties were presented with different treatments at different locations in the fair.

RESEARCH IN THE CHACO

The Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (INBIO) has been working, through an agreement, at Estancia Jerovia, part of Agropecuaria Carlos Casado SA, in Mariscal Estigarribia, department of Boquerón, on selecting advanced lines developed by is Soy Improvement Program, with a focus on satisfying the needs of Chaco producers and, therefore, having locally developed varieties. The products being developed utilize HB4 technologies that provide drought resistance and feature the stacking of rust genes.

About INBIO

INBIO is a non-profit civil association whose purpose is to promote adequate access to products derived from agricultural biotechnology in the country, and their orderly incorporation into national production, as well as the promotion and development of national biotechnology research. Seven unions are part of the institution, which are CAP, APS, APROSEMP, FECOPROD, CAPECO, PARPOV and UNICOOP.
